See, hear, taste, touch, and smell. We all recognize those as the five senses, right? Would you have known that as a child when your mind was developing? If you had someone telling you that this was a "sense" and it was "taste" as a child you may not totally get it.

Well, Sam Reich-Dagnen and husband John Dagnen had twins and needed to fill that void. How do I help teach them? What can I do to help them learn in a productive way? They wanted as they put it a DVD that was developmentally appropriate content that truly engaged our children rather than just putting them to sleep and let me tell you my readers this hits the mark. Braincandykids.com has it all and more. Not only that but Sam is a mother and an amazing woman who I’ve come to admire and adore as a person. I can see why her company is so successful with their ideas and them at the helm!

See features Bruce Brain, Ivy eyes and all of the gang who take you on a journey to “see” all the wonders on this scavenger hunt for balloons. Classical music tickles your eardrums as your little ones explore the worlds with so much to see around them, bubbles, boats, butterflies and the Brain candy gang. It’s not just a regular DVD meant to bore an infant or distract a toddler, they are learning as they play.

Anna ear was engaging and walked us through a delight of activities to teach us about another sense, hearing. This musical adventure helps develop language and literacy skills which if you have not picked up by now are quite a passion of mine. To make them so available to children young as six months, it’s such an advantage. Now when my kids were this age, there were other videos but no one was guiding and walking through with us, and my kids? Well they did fall asleep; it was the nap-time video to be honest. These are so interactive and engaging no rest here for the viewers. One mom told me, “the kids loved them, and I hoped to get a rest! Nope it didn't happen no more “rest” time when I put these DVDs in which is actually great after I did watch them!”

Several of us are used to another style of DVDs and child learning this is a good thing! Mom & Dad, no more sneaking naps!

My youngest is oddly obsessed with lemons and eating them straight. The taste DVD made her want to eat everything in the house (okay, she wants to anyway that was her excuse) and “introduce” the other kids to new tastes. I like this concept for the simple fact I had a picky eater. Had I had this I think it would have made a lot of food transitions a lot easier. Mojo Mouth could have taught her - and well, any child - that food isn't anything to be afraid of but something to try and to experience. The country music in the DVD makes you feel a little more at ease, the kids get down and just want to get into the groove, if you please. From sweet, tart, and sour, it’s all a variety of taste pleasures.

Touch - this seemed to be the overall kid. Maybe it was the relateable social interaction of hugs; hands in the spaghetti; the Bruce Brain and Harry Hand guide you through many adventures with the entire Sense squad. Okay, Braincandy calls it a Gang ... I just ad libbed there. One of the neatest things was I showed my six and eight year old these, now they were a little above the learning curve here though they loved the music so it truly drew them in. In addition to that, it made them wants to watch it with my friend’s younger kids and help them along. Sam and John make the DVDs accessible to any and everyone in my opinion.

Well, Braincandy does something here that takes a favorite element and introduces it to my kids. What you ask? The blindfold and smell test. What a fun and exciting way to develop a sense but make it a game. Do you think they know what they are doing is learning? Maybe, maybe not and it’s just a blast for them. Yet another game we had to play. Well, I admit I set it up and had the older kids play with the younger ones. The fact there was such an interest that Nusi nose helped my kids develop was so amazing. Simple things they could usually care less about that mean so much in the big picture.

The five senses! How else can you get a little one so excited? Sam and John have the market cornered. I wonder where they were eight years ago...

Watch for the new website to open live ... I will be giving away a set of Braincandy DVDs. Keep checking www.themomintheknow.com!

Smart ass gals
provide an array of choices for any woman out there looking for comfort for her bottom. Do you like boy cut? The “gal” shorts? They have ‘em for you and I can attest to the comfort level. Cute, classy and comfortable … and just sexy enough for a mom or anyone who wants to wear them, actually. Would you like to know a few facts about them?
• This fun and flirty lingerie is extremely light weight – it’s wafer thin!
• Sexy, sheer fabric disappears under clothing.
• Combines a ultra-soft mesh fabric with contrasting stretch lace
• Two unique Smart Ass patterns – pink hearts and black scroll on white.
• Available styles; thong, bikini, gal short and camisole. 100% cotton World’s First Inspirational Gusset will make you smile every time you drop your drawers.
• Perfect for travel. Easy to wash, dries quickly.

Then there is the thong line … no more VPLs ladies (visible panty lines). Fits like a second skin, silky and again no VPL. It’s the perfect for low-rise jeans, smooth and so comfortable you really don’t know you have them on. What makes them so comfortable? Superb fit and sleek silhouette – the 90% nylon, 10% spandex.

As we all know it’s almost inevitable that when you bend over you give a glimpse of a little glimpse of your panties over the top of your jeans. You can tell everyone this way how you feel about yourself.
Are you a Yummy Mummy?
Domestic Diva?
Control Freak?
Party Girl?
Bombshell?
• Or do you want to show ‘em Bottoms Up?
• Do you have a Bun in the Oven?

How did Smart Ass start you wonder, I did until I read all about it. I think the name is pretty sweet it’s memorable that’s for sure. Here is the back story.

Once, there were two very different little girls, Alix and Cindy, who worked for the same ad agency. Despite their differences, each agreed that the other was just fabulous - and they became fast friends. Years passed and the two became even more fabulous.
One day, Alix was hanging out in the park with another fabulous friend, when her friend bent over to pick up her son and flashed Alix her thong. They both laughed, and her friend said, "Don't you hate it when you lean over and all anyone can see is the back of your thong?" Suddenly Alix had a fantastic idea. If you're gonna flash your thong, why not flash it with style? She called her pal Cindy - and Smart Ass was born.
These gals want you to have your attitude and wear it around. I do and do it proudly.

They are sized s/m & m/l. I’m on the small side and the s/m weren’t big but they did have room if you were larger then my size 0/2. When they say stretch they to stretch to fit.

Try them out, now and if you want to win a free pair then you need to go to the website and comment on your favorite pair and tell me why you like ‘em.

Guest Review by a MITH tester

My Breast friend nursing pillow. A nursing pillow is a must for all moms of a new baby, whether breastfeeding or not. Arms get tired, especially on those long, sleepless nights. The My Breast friend pillow has a very unique design. I like the large front cushion, giving lots of room for baby, the velor fabric is super soft, and the pocket is a plus (though I haven’t had a use for it yet). I get that the wrap around design is to give extra lumbar support, but it seems like too much for me. I don’t find that to be very comfortable. Also, it takes a little planning to get strapped in. With the Boppy, I can hold the baby and fit the pillow around me for feeding time. With my Breast friend, I need both hands. I also prefer the u shaped pillow because it’s more versatile and can be used for tummy time, helping baby sit up, etc- Gayle MITK reviewer

Carol's Daughter

Carol’s Daughter
Rose and jojoba body rub- Bulgarian rose absolute in a base of jojoba and olive oils is a genie in a bottle. Gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin it’s great for the whole family. Perfect for babies after a warm bath and after shaving for you.
I personally tried it for both shaving and massages. It did leave an oily residue more then I prefer on both the shaving a massages. The rose is a nice scent, but if you are allergy prone remember and be wary of that. I love jojoba for skin care and I enjoyed a bit of indulgence there. I honestly am not a oil person because of the residue. But if I have to use and oil this is one I’ll use.
Body jelly is a vegetable alternative to petroleum jelly. Use it for anything you would use petroleum jelly for. I used it for a lot of boo-boos in this house. Even My dog’s paws, ears, and random things on us here and there. I can’t really elaborate much its body jelly! Worked great! I’ll take it over petroleum jelly anytime.

Sexy belly - Improve your skin’s elasticity on those sexy body parts; belly, breast and hips with SEXY BELLY. This vitamin-rich treatment is loaded with shea butter, cocoa butter and jojoba oil; to help with cell regeneration, capillary circulation and reduce the appearance of stretch marks, while conditioning the skin. Great for “Mommies-to-Be” and sensitive skin!
It sounded almost too good to be true. Can you really fix all that stuff? Isn’t that why people have plastic surgery?
So I tried and tested for several weeks, as did a friend who was actually pregnant. I’ll be honest It didn’t make me smooth and stretch mark free as is I didn’t sacrifice my body for two children at one time. Did it make it softer? Yes. Are my stretch marks, okay I call them mom mommy marks, I did achieve them, still there, yes. Are they lighter I honestly can’t tell yet. After 7+ years now it all looks the same. The smell is mild and the feel is pleasant.

Scary Costumes Make for Warm Memories

DealHunting.com, Currentcodes.com Helps Consumers Save on Both

(TULSA, OK)— Barry Boone, the founder and CEO of www.DealHunting.com and www.CurrentCodes.com, wants the memories of smiling youngsters trick-or-treating this fall to remain fresh long after the last candied apple has been eaten and the last red cape has been folded and tucked away. And so he is reminding parents that they can find unbeatable savings on costumes, candy and digital photo processing online this Halloween.

“We have lots of listings of coupons and sales for retailers that sell costumes, like BuyCostumes.com and Costume SuperCenter,” says Boone, “but we also have really great coupons for stores that do digital photo processing, like Snapfish.com, KodakGallery.com and YorkPhoto.com. So whenever you take pictures of your kids in their Halloween costumes, you can find a coupon to process those digital photos at a great price.”

DealHunting.com is a daily shopping list,” Boone explains. “You can go there on a daily basis and find a listing of all the different good sales we found on the internet for that day. These are the newest, latest, greatest sales, and if there are some really deeply discounted items for those stores, we’ll have them listed.”

Sister site Currentcodes.com is a database of coupons for more than 1,300 online stores ranging from Amazon.com to Zales and everything in between, including CompUSA, Disney, Esprit, The Gap, JCPenney, L.L. Bean, Old Navy, Orbitz, Overstock.com, Staples and more. Each has a place within its shopping cart for a "coupon code" that gives a percent or dollar amount off of a purchase.

“If you don't know the code, you can't take advantage of the discount,” says Boone. “You can find these secret discount codes and coupon codes listed on many sites across the internet, but the problem with these sites is that they're usually personal homepages, and don't maintain their lists.”

DealHunting.com and Currentcodes.com have a full-time trained staff whose only job is to find new sales, coupon and discount codes and verify the accuracy of the existing database. “We don't flood you with ads or popups, and we don’t require any personal information from our visitors.” Boone says.

What sets DealHunting.com and Currentcodes.com apart from their competitors, Boone feels, is that “we are by far two of the most thorough sites as far as the breadth of companies we cover.”

In the months ahead, Boone and his team will launch additional features for searching products more efficiently.

Save 'em if you got 'em

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and in honor of that I did a review of a website that gives back to Breast Cancer research. The mission and ideology at Save the Ta-tas is to bring joy and healing to the world, they believe that laughter heals. They believe in leading with a spirit of excellence. They believe that integrity and generosity brings success for all. These are sacred and unchanging. These are our their guiding principles for all that they do.

So let me tell you about the products I tried and tested, you can snap them up for you and all of your friends.
I had the pleasure and I do mean that of a tee shirt, long sleeve shirt, hoodie, and a tank top.

They are delightful and charming to the eye. You have to know that right away!
All are very comfortable and machine washable. They are pre-shrunk; though they do run true to size when you order keep that in mind.

Now let me explain the comfort. The cotton was soft and felt quite good against my skin. All of them were eye-catching and I was more then proud to wear them. I am more then proud to say that I get asked about the shirts, etc all the time and commended on the plight.

It’s to me a plight we all need to get behind and recognize. Breast cancer seems to affect all of our lives in one way or another if not yet, eventually. Please remember that this month and everyday. I’ll have a donation button up that will go directly to breast cancer research for the month of October and donate if you would like. Links provided also to other sites for information also.

Thank you and save those Ta-tas!

scent-a-rific!

Not one of those overwhelming scents for your car anymore, Scentportable made it easy on the nose. When you put a portable in scent in a car it can be overwhelming but not Scentportable, I clipped in on my passenger side visor and closed the car up for the weekend if the scent would overwhelm the car.
It didn’t happen.

It was a light scent of Vanilla Coconut lingering over the minivan but it didn’t choke me like others have in the past. My minivan was refreshed and didn’t smell like a cleaner.

The Scentportable is palm sized, you can place is anywhere I happened to pick my car. Try the closet, one a drape, in the bathroom or in your cubicle. The one I reviewed didn’t require a plug, battery or a flame, but they also make one you can plug in. This one you can rest on virtually any surface. It has 4-6 weeks of continuous fragrance and it comes in four scents. Pineapple mango, cinnamon and clove buds, fresh linen, vanilla coconut; an assortment for all noses.

My children one of whom seems to be allergic to it if the other isn’t had no reactions. I had no reaction and I have to a lot of perfumes. The scent is as light as I stated earlier I think that is what helped.

I would suggest these for lockers, hampers (after dryer maybe?) gym bag, closets, anywhere you feel you need a light scent in a small space. In my personal opinion it can’t cover a larger space, but it’s great in a contained area. It’s attractive to look at so it can be visible if needed but if you decided to hide it, that won’t hinder you either.

Don’t forget to take a look at the plug in ones, too. Just stop by your local Bath and Body Works, or shop online 24 hours a day.

We love our furry friends, too!

As the owner of a big, old furry black lab we have a hard time finding the perfect tools to brush him. He’s a shedding machine. On the other end I have a little round bulldog that had the opposite hair but she loves to be brushed because it’s like a good scratching for her. Now the FurBuster has solved all of that for me. Please note that I did not test on a cat which these can be used on.

The brush it’s self has an ergonomic handle which made that much nicer for me. I’m used to using an old one that would kill my wrist as I brushed along. I tested the small and medium sizes small on the bulldog and medium on the lab. The blades were equally interchangeable and had ease of use.

The Medium Brush- BLACK LAB he’s a furry beast! I brushed and brushed. I filled up two grocery bags of hair and I’m sure I could have probably filled up more but I honestly had to stop due to my shoulder starting to hurt. NOT from the brush, from repetive motion. Also, I was tired. We’ll do that again in about a week. He loved it, enjoyed getting rid of enough hair to cover another dog, and slept like a baby from all the ‘petting”.

Small Brush- Bulldog loved every minute of it. Nice scratchins where she likes ‘em, got her hair off of her. With her smaller wiry hair, some of the other brushes she wasn’t fond of. This one got to her dry spots and got the job done.

Attached below is the press release for more information directly from the company, enjoy!

Professional-Grade De-shedding Tool Incorporates Three Interchangeable Blades on
One Universal Handle for Simple, Convenient, Economical Grooming

NORTH HILLS, Calif. – Bamboo®, the pet care division of Munchkin Inc., announces the launch of the FurBuster™, an innovative three-in-one de-shedding tool designed for professional groomers and pet owners alike. Created with three different sizes of interchangeable/replaceable blades and an ergonomic handle, the FurBuster addresses the grooming needs of dogs and cats of all sizes.

“The Bamboo philosophy is to take an average product and produce an innovative design that makes it multi-functional,” said Steven B. Dunn, CEO and chairman, Munchkin Inc. “With the creation of FurBuster, Bamboo has developed an easy-to-use de-shedding tool that’s also one of the most cost-efficient on the market. By incorporating interchangeable blades into the FurBuster design, you can now purchase individual blade sizes rather than buying an entirely new tool for different sizes of pets or if your blade becomes dull. ”

The design of FurBuster makes de-shedding a simple task. With an angled head that reduces wrist strain and an ergonomic handle with a comfort grip, FurBuster allows users to easily, quickly and safely remove loose hair and undercoat from pets. The three blade sizes allow consumers to groom both cats and dogs, large and small. The simple “press and release” system makes replacing dull blades, or changing blade sizes, a breeze. The heavy-duty, stainless steel blades are available in 2, 2.75- and 4-inch sizes and easily snap into the tool.

The FurBuster Professional De-shedding Tools will start at less than $25, and the Replacement blades will start at less than $15. Both are available nationwide at Target, Walmart and other pet specialty stores.

A word from Ellen on Breast Cancer Awareness.

One A Day® and Ellen DeGeneres Team Up to Deliver a Message to Women About Breast Cancer Through The “One A Day Women’s Wake-Up Call” Program

MORRISTOWN, N.J., September 25, 2008 - Although breast cancer awareness is at an all-time high, a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control suggests that the number of women over 40 getting annual mammograms is declining. To help address this issue, Ellen DeGeneres and the makers of One A Day multivitamins have teamed up to issue a call to action for women nationwide to take an active approach to help maintain their own breast health through the “One A Day Women’s Wake-Up Call” program.

During September and October, the “One A Day Women’s Wake-Up Call” program offers everyone the opportunity to go to the One A Day Web site at www.oneaday.com and register to have a free personalized phone call from Ellen DeGeneres sent to their friends and loved ones to advise them about the simple things they can do to help support their own breast health.

The goal of the program is to reach as many women as possible by the end of October. In addition, One A Day will make a donation to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® to help fund innovative clinical research and also increase public awareness about the importance of doing simple things to support good breast health.

“This is such an important and exciting program for One A Day,” said Jay Kolpon, Vice President, Marketing, Bayer HealthCare. “We believe that sending or receiving a telephone or email message about this vital health issue will help empower women nationwide to take an active role in supporting their breast health. And, we couldn’t have better partners in this effort than Ellen DeGeneres and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation because they share our strong commitment to women’s health.”

Every three minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer and according to the American Cancer Society, the chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer at some point during her life is about 1 in 8. This is why it is incredibly important for women to do what they can to maintain their breast health.

“On behalf of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, I’m thrilled that One A Day is issuing the ‘One A Day Women’s Wake-Up Call’ because raising awareness of breast cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the United States other than skin cancer, is only half the battle. Women also need to take action, and this program can help them do that. Early detection can save lives.” said Myra Biblowit, President, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

In addition to signing up to send a Wake-Up Call, women should get an annual mammogram, conduct self-exams and take One A Day Women’s multivitamins formulated with twice the daily value of vitamin D. Emerging research suggests that 1000 IUs of vitamin D per day can help support breast health.

For more information about how to send a “One A Day Women’s Wake-Up Call” from Ellen, visit www.oneaday.com.

About The Breast Cancer Research Foundation
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to funding innovative clinical and translational research. The Foundation supports scientists at top universities and academic medical centers worldwide conducting the most advanced and promising breast cancer research that will lead to prevention and a cure in our lifetime. A minimum of 85 cents of each dollar donated to the Foundation goes directly to breast cancer research and awareness programs. In October 2008, nearly $35 million will be awarded to 166 scientists across the United States and in Australia, Canada, Latin America, the Middle East, and throughout Europe. And for the seventh consecutive year, BCRF received Charity Navigator’s highest rating, four stars, thus outperforming over 99% of the evaluated charities, while the American Institute of Philanthropy has awarded BCRF its highest possible rating of A+. BCRF is the only breast cancer organization in the U.S. to receive these accolades. For more information, visit www.bcrfcure.org or call 1.866.FIND.A.CURE.

Cause
The cause of breast cancer is unknown. Current research is being conducted to discover why and how certain changes in DNA can cause normal breast cells to become cancerous.

Prevention
There is no known way to prevent breast cancer from occurring. However, women can learn the risk factors and promote early detection with regular breast self-exams, annual mammograms and clinical check-ups.

Risk Factors
The highest risk factors for breast cancer are being female and aging. Other risk factors include:

- Began menstruation early and ended late

- Current use or past use of post menopausal hormone therapy
- Physical inactivity

Symptoms
- New lump or mass
- Hard mass that has irregular edges and is painless
- Discharge, other than breast milk
- Redness or pain in the nipple, or on the breast skin
- Retraction of the nipple (turning inward)
- Swelling of the breast that is generalized with no distinct lump

Key Statistics
- Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.
- In her lifetime, 1 out of 8 women will develop breast cancer.
- In 2008, the American Cancer Society estimates that 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer (Stages I-IV) will be diagnosed among women in the United States.
- In men, the American Cancer Society estimates 1,990 new cases in 2008.
- Approximately 5% to 10% of breast cancers can be attributed to genetic predisposition; 20% to 30% of women with breast cancer have a family member with the disease.
- Worldwide, more than a million cases of breast cancer will be detected each year, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France.
- One out of 210 breast cancer cases occur in women under the age of 40.

Who am I?

Well, aside from a mom and a wife, I'm a person who wants the best for all of us. I have two daughters, two dogs, and a husband – all of whom I wanted to be at home for – so I put my talents to use, looking out for my family. Shopping (well, kinda you send me the products!). Surfing the Internet. Meeting new people. Recommending products to friends, after I fall in love with them. And figuring out how to make products better.

Enjoy.
